A Little Known Talent from Redditch

On a recent episode of the Bachelor, one contestant moans, “you can’t fall in love if you don’t even have time with the guy.”

False.

In summer 2012, I was in the Mulberry store in London when I saw a kid in tight jeans, a white t-shirt, YSL boots, and a blue beanie. Like fellow style icon Cher Horowitz, he had several shopping bags, including a big blue bag from Tiffany’s.

I did not know teenagers actually spent money like this in real life! What child is this?… A kid.. with tight pants… and money… in London… HE MUST BE IN ONE DIRECTION!!!! I googled “One Direction” while following the unknown teen through the mall and to his Range Rover. “Yes, yes, he is definitely one of these pictured boys. Another case closed for Encyclopedia Brown.”

I’d heard of One Direction without knowing their members or music. A few months earlier, I purchased a ticket to their concert scheduled for the following summer– sight unseen and music unheard– based on the assurance I would adore them from one whose opinion I hold in high regard. I decided I would not begin listening to One Direction until close to the concert date. Based on my past, I knew this group would be a time suck and wanted to enjoy my last few months of freedom.

According to Friends; however, it is permissible to engage in activities in London that one ordinarily would not. Since I strive to live my life like a sitcom, I decided I could cease my One Direction moratorium while in town. I began with the “One Thing” video. About 20 seconds into the song, Harry sings. Just like Monica and Chandler, the spark that initially ignited in London traveled across the Atlantic. (See video below).

If that contestant from the Bachelor cannot fall in love with Matt James after a three minute conversation at a cocktail party, she should just go home.
